Using Multimedia to support learning

Podcasting

Picture
Podcasting is a wonderful way of allowing students to share their work and experiences with a potentially huge audience over the Internet.

A podcast is like a radio show. However, instead of being broadcast live, a podcast is recorded and then distributed over the internet or to a mobile device, so that you can listen to it whenever you please.

Benefits of using podcasts

- Give students a potential audience of thousands for their work

- Develop literacy skills (writing scripts, setting up interviews, allowing pupils to develop and practise their speaking and listening skills)

- Develop teamwork skills

Stop Motion Animation

Example of using Stop Motion Animation with a green screen

Chroma Keying (Green Screen)

Green screen technology is the basis of the effects seen in everything from the latest Hollywood blockbusters to the weather forecast. The idea is simple. If you shoot a video with a single coloured backdrop (usually blue or green) you can superimpose anything or anyone onto any background. You can transport yourself to the moon, travel back in time, or make a presentation along with all the relevant facts and figures.

Comic Strips

Picture
Comic Life is a comic desktop publishing application designed to create comic strips or photo scrapbooks.

Comic Life is extremely versatile and easy to use. It can be used to create anything from starter activities and sentence starters to storyboards and photo albums.
